LOD 200 (Level of Development 200) represents the Schematic Design stage in BIM. At this level, model elements are developed with approximate geometry, locations, and quantities, giving a more defined representation compared to concept design.
Key Features of LOD 200
- Approximate geometry for walls, floors, roofs, openings, structural components, and MEP systems.
- Generic elements with estimated size, shape, and position.
- Preliminary quantities used for early cost estimates.
- Basic spatial layout for rooms, circulation, and functional zones.

Purpose of LOD 200
LOD 100 helps stakeholders:
- Evaluate design feasibility and refine space planning.
- Improve cost estimation accuracy compared to LOD 100.
- Coordinate primary structural and MEP layouts.
- Identify early design issues before detailed development.
- Present schematic-level visuals to clients and stakeholders.

OUTCOME
By LOD 300–350, the BIM model becomes a fully coordinated, detailed representation of the project, ready for technical documentation, accurate quantity takeoffs, and pre-construction planning. This ensures smoother transitions into fabrication, construction planning, and execution.
